Valencia (16.12.24). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía will offer three accessible opera performances for people with visual and hearing impairments in three of the most emblematic titles of the 2024-2025 Season: 'Il trovatore', by Verdi, 'Dialogues des Carmélites', by Poulenc, and 'Der fliegende Holländer', by Wagner.
After the excellent reception it had in past seasons, Les Arts continues with its commitment to guaranteeing access to its cultural offering to all citizens with this action, which is carried out in collaboration with 'Accessible Theatre' and will have its first session on December 19 in the fourth performance of 'Il trovatore', by Verdi.
The Valencian opera house will provide interested parties with devices to receive audio descriptions that will be broadcast live from the stage by a specialized professional, providing relevant visual information about the work, such as costumes, scenery, and the entrances and exits of the characters.
In addition, the audio description service is complemented by the narration of the plot and the explanation of the content of the dialogues so that viewers can perfectly follow the action of the work.
The amplified sound system will also be provided, which increases the audio signal and offers greater power and clarity of sound for those who request it, and which, along with the audio description tool, is offered completely free of charge.
In addition to 'Il trovatore', two more accessible opera performances will be programmed in two other reference titles this season: Robert Carsen's spectacular production of 'Dialogues des Carmélites' (January 28, 2025) for the first time this opera is performed at the Valencian arts center, and the long-awaited 'Der fliegende Holländer' (March 11, 2025) in Willy Decker's historic staging of one of Wagner's essential works that had not yet been programmed at Les Arts.
The devices for accessing audio descriptions and hearing aid systems will be handed out in the lobby of the Main Hall on the day of the performance, so those interested are advised to arrive 20 minutes in advance to collect them and receive instructions on their operation from the staff authorized for this purpose.
