The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía will premiere in Spain the symphonic work 'Mural', by Francisco Coll, on April 6 at the Auditori. George Pehlivanian assumed the direction of this concert, in which Gustav Mahler's 'Das Lied von der Erde' was also offered.

'Mural' is a tribute from the Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and the Arts to the young Valencian composer. The series premieres in full force on September 26 at the Luxembourg Philharmonic, directed by Gustavo Gimeno.

The Valencian author proposes a symphony for a large orchestra in five movements and a duration of 24 minutes. "This 'Mural' grew up to be just a period in my work. Like a mural, the piece presents a synthesis of the musical languages that I have developed in the last decade," explains Francisco Coll.

The young talent will perform for the first time in May 2016 at the Palau de Les Arts with “Café Kafka”, a chamber opera in one act, written by five soloists and two instrumentalists, for which Les Arts will provide a new production. The score will be a request from the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, the Aldeburgh Festival and Opera North in Leeds.

In the concert, així mateix, the mezzo-soprano Elena Zhidkova and the tenor Nikolai Schukoff will sing 'Das Lied von der Erde' ('The song of the Earth'), by Gustav Mahler; a piece that the Austrian composer will write one year after the death of his wife Maria and three years away from his own wife.

Les Arts brings together two outstanding performers who have made their debut in the capital of Túria. The public will remember the Austrian tenor for several roles in 'Salomé', 'Borís Godunov', 'Ariadne auf Naxos' or 'Die Walküre', while the Petersburg mezzo will debut in 2014 with Bartok's 'El castell de Barbablava'.

George Pehlivanian (Beirut, 1964) conducts the Valencian Community Orchestra for the first time. Regularly invited to the most prestigious formations in the world, the North American master will attract international attention at the prestigious Besançon International Competition. He will study piano and violin, and will become deixeble of Pierre Boulez and Lorin Maazel. His extensive repertoire included French music, the complete Mahlerian works and an extensive and varied operatic record.
