The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía stages the melodrama 'Lucrèce Borgia', by Victor Hugo, which will serve as a direct inspiration for the book of Donizetti's opera of the same name, which is currently represented in the Main Hall, in a new production by Emilio Sagi.
Pepe Galotto directs this dramatized reading, co-produced between Les Arts and La Farseria, with an adaptation and stage proposal by Anselmo Alonso and character, lighting, costumes and musical selection under the Les Arts team.
The cast is formed by Lucrecia Cervelló (Lucrezia Borgia), Miguel Seguí (Alfonso d'Este), Roberto Roig (Genaro), Robert de la Fuente (Yubeta), Adrián Ferrer (Orsini), Georgia Negri (Princess Negroni), Chuso Puig (Jacobo Libereto), Christian Giner (Rustiguelo), Álex Reyes (Ascanio Petruci) and Noel Conde (Ludovico Vitelozo).
As Galotto has explained, Victor Hugo's text “is a romantic vision of the Renaissance character: Lucretia, in an internal struggle to avoid her sinister passing, tries to protect her family from a family destiny full of moral depravations (incests, enverinaments, murders). Genaro's destiny and love for his friend Orsini “It will be impossible to save your soul and redeem your own life.”
The French playwright will premiere in Paris on February 2, 1833 'Lucrèce Borgia', a play in three acts and prose, a paradigmatic exercise of the imperial romanticism that experienced enormous vitality in the 30s of the 19th century.
Victor Hugo offered a negative portrait of the illustrious daughter of Pope Borja of Valencia. A portrait that goes beyond the soft contours of the beautiful lady; a portrait that depicts the tragic profile of the assassin who will also be used and humiliated.
The 'Lucrèce Borgia', by Victor Hugo, is born with a quasi-ideological, political dramaturgical premise: the theater is a tribune from which the loud and powerful talk is made; The drama has a dimension and a social, national and human function, Anselmo Alonso has pointed out.
The project, which is part of the didactic program of the arts center, includes a performance open to the general public on Sunday, April 9, at 6:00 p.m. The locations have a single price of 7 euros.
