26.04.2017

John Axelrod (Houston, 1966) will close the symphonic cycle of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) at the Auditori de Castelló on Friday, April 28, for the 2016-2017 Season.

The Texas maestro, artistic director of the Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville (ROSS) and principal guest of the Giuseppe Verdi Symphony Orchestra of Milan, is rehearsing these days in Valencia with the resident orchestra of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, with whom he is working for the first time.

For his performance in the capital of La Plana, the director has chosen a program consisting of 'Adagio for Strings' by Samuel Barber; 'Aconcagua, Concerto for Bandoneon and Orchestra' by Astor Piazzolla, with Javier Cárdenas as soloist, and 'New World Symphony' by Antonín Dvořák.

A disciple of Leonard Bernstein and Ilya Musin, Axelrod is one of today's most highly regarded conductors, renowned for his extensive repertoire and charismatic, innovative style. Since 2001, his conducting career has encompassed over 160 orchestras worldwide, 30 operas, and 50 world premieres, along with a substantial discography of both classical and contemporary music.

Ramón Tebar - principal guest conductor of Les Arts - together with the artists of the Centre Plácido Domingo and the OCV, inaugurated this series of concerts last November with which the arts center joins the musical programming of Castelló.

Internationally renowned conductors have accompanied the Les Arts resident orchestra on their visits to the Auditori this season: Diego Matheuz, who along with Gustavo Dudamel is one of the leading figures of the National System of Public Orchestras of Venezuela, and Víctor Pablo Pérez, a key figure in the development of the Spanish musical scene in the 80s and 90s and current principal conductor of the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid.
