The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía begins, starting this week, the works planned within the 2017 fiscal year in the building's Conservation Plan for the next eight years.

The actions include cleaning and painting work on the exterior metal structure that supports the glass facade of the Main Hall and the Master Classroom, overlooking the City of Arts and Sciences and the city of Valencia, respectively.

The first phase of the works includes the washing of the surfaces with 500 bar pressure water, followed by the preparation of the structures, with the cleaning of the surfaces by projecting very low dust production abrasive sponges where there are points of oxidation.

Finally, an anti-corrosive coating will be applied to the rusted areas, to complete the painting work.

The works are scheduled to last 45 days with the aim of having the building designed by Santiago Calatrava fully rehabilitated for the start of activity to the public at the beginning of September.

Last year, Les Arts undertook the conservation work on the building during the months of July and August, which included cleaning the surface and applying anti-corrosive coating to the spire and the complete restoration of its lighting system.

During this period, the waterproofing of the skylights that provide natural light to the -3 floor, where the technical area and the Plácido Domingo Centre are located, among others, was also carried out, in addition to the repainting of the access walkway to the building.
