Les Arts offers 176 sessions of educational activity in the 2017-2018 Season

11.09.2017

The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía opens the registration period on its website www.lesarts.com next Wednesday, September 13, through an online form for the 176 educational sessions included in the Educational Program of the 2017-2018 Season.

The activities, aimed mainly at students from Primary, Secondary, University, Conservatories of Music and Dance and Official Language Schools, include for the first time an activity for children under 3 years old: 'Babies ONLY', a sensory stimulation workshop.

Educational shows, workshops, conferences, meetings, discussions and initiatives to promote opera and symphonic music make up the different proposals that will be held in the different spaces of Les Arts until June 2018.

Among the educational shows, the arts center is bringing back two of its most celebrated productions: 'Detectives at the Opera', a crazy guided tour in which children, transformed into novice detectives, discover the secrets of an opera house, and 'Drawing Music', inspired by 'The Story of Babar, the Little Elephant', by Francis Poulenc, and 'The Carnival of the Animals', by Camille Saint-Saëns.

In addition, this course includes other proposals such as 'Feel the music', which will allow attendees to learn about the piano in a cross-cutting way, its nature, timbre and registers, as well as the continuity of the LOVA project.

The Aula Magistral, for its part, hosts two dramatized readings through which students explore the relationship between lyric poetry and literature. Alongside the December premiere of Verdi's 'Don Carlo', Friedrich Schiller's 'Dom Karlos, Infant von Spanien' will be performed, while in May, coinciding with the performances of 'Tosca', 'La Fosca', a parody of Puccini's opera in one act and four and a half scenes, written in verse by Salvador María Granés, will be staged. As a complement, Les Arts offers the activity 'From Book to Libretto', in which secondary and high school students work on the process of adapting a literary work into the language of opera.

Among the different initiatives, there are also practical sessions about opera and its workings, such as 'Opera in Construction', which explores the interaction of different professional disciplines in an opera house, or the family-oriented program 'A Morning With…', which shows the process of creating an operatic production.

In the workshops section, Les Arts revives proposals such as 'Attrezzomanía', 'VestuArts' and 'CaracterizaT' aimed at second cycle Primary students who learn firsthand about the activity of essential departments in any theater: props, costumes and characterization.

Bringing artistic excellence closer

The quality of artistic activity is another cornerstone of the Educational Program. As a complement to the training of future professionals, the arts center organizes meetings and discussions with prominent conductors and singers during their appearances at the theater.

For their part, the permanent ensembles of Les Arts will also be the subject of study in other activities: 'Educant en Simfonia' and 'Re-Cambra', around the symphonic and chamber music concerts of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, and 'Tots a Cor', on the activity of the Cor de la Generalitat Valenciana.

In this regard, Les Arts also maintains initiatives to promote and bring opera closer to the public. Throughout the season, the 'Feel the Opera' program allows secondary school, high school, and special education students to enjoy one of the opera performances, in addition to dress rehearsals and educational performances exclusively for educational audiences.

The Educational Program for the 2017-2018 Season also includes the various initiatives with which Les Arts joins the celebration of the 'European Opera Days' each year, which in the last edition brought together more than 1,100 people at the arts center. These days, promoted by Opera Europa—the continent's leading organization with 170 associated opera companies and festivals—aim to highlight music as a universal language and celebrate opera: the quintessential art form of European identity.
