The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia begins this Friday, September 15, the auditions for the job pool of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV), the main ensemble of the cultural enclave.

The outcome of this process will govern future hiring to cover temporary replacements, absences, and leaves of absence at the OCV. The pool of talent will be valid for three seasons, extending through the 2019-2020 opera season.

In total, Les Arts has received nearly four hundred applications for the instruments listed in the call for auditions: viola, violin, bassoon, flute, trumpet, and percussion. For the first time, the arts center has managed the application process through muv.ac, a website specializing in audition management currently used by theaters such as the Vienna State Opera, the Komische Oper Berlin, and others.

The majority of applications come from European countries, mostly Spain, although there are also applicants from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Korea, the United States, Mexico, Russia, and Uruguay. The violin audition, with nearly one hundred applications, has attracted the most applicants.

Les Arts will host the different tests during the second half of September, which will begin this Friday with the selection for viola, followed by the auditions for flute (16), bassoon (17), trumpet (18), percussion (22) and violin (30).

The audition jury consists of the artistic director, Davide Livermore; the principal conductors of the OCV, Roberto Abbado and Fabio Biondi; and members of the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana. The auditions will be open to the public until the hall reaches capacity.
