In collaboration with the Valencian Tourism Agency

The Palau de les Arts will stream the concert version of the opera 'Le cinesi' by Christoph Willibald Gluck, which Fabio Biondi will conduct at the Auditori on November 2.

The work of the German composer marks the beginning of the program of activities of 'The Silk Road in Music', a project resulting from the collaboration agreement between Les Arts and the Valencian Tourism Agency (AVT).

An agreement that, according to the regional secretary of the AVT, Francesc Colomer, “will allow the development of cultural products that can open us up to new markets.”

Furthermore, Colomer added that this initiative will serve to promote the Silk Road, "a product we are working on to give greater relevance to the city of Valencia and the Valencian Community in the world, highlighting the role it has played in this historical and cultural route of union with the East."

'Le cinesi' is a one-act opera with an Italian libretto by Pietro Metastasio. For this performance, Les Arts has assembled a cast of leading figures in the repertoire, including Italian soprano Désirée Rancatore, Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg, and Valencian singer Silvia Tro Santafé, along with Italian tenor Anicio Zorzi Giustiniani.

The work deals with the aspirations of three Chinese women who, after hearing the stories circulating about the West, feel the attraction of wanting to live their lives, sensitive to the desire for an imaginary world where - apparently - there is greater freedom.

The Silk Road, which through trade relations fosters openness between the West and the East, has its musical counterpart in this opera by Gluck and its vision of the encounter between cultures.

Online streaming of 'Le cinesi' will be available from November 24th via www.OperaVision.eu , the new platform sponsored by Opera Europa, an association that brings together thirty opera companies from eighteen countries across the continent, including Les Arts. OperaVision takes over from The Opera Platform, which broadcast the Valencian production of 'Lucrezia Borgia' on April 1st, also with the support of the AVT (Valencian Theatre Authority), starting October 12th.

'Pelléas et Mélisande', from the Komische Oper Berlin, is the first title that OperaVision will broadcast on October 15. The new platform will allow opera lovers and enthusiasts to access a wide variety of pieces, stories, and documentaries about opera, as well as the opportunity to explore the richness of its repertoire, spanning more than four hundred years, through performances across Europe.

The 'Opera Academy' section, meanwhile, will provide access to a wide range of content, from short films to essays and interviews with leading figures in the genre. This will make OperaVision a comprehensive educational tool with specific content for both young people and adults.

The platform will also join the celebrations of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018 with a rich program to showcase the diversity of opera today.

OperaVision follows the excellent reception of The Opera Platform, managed by Opera Europa and co-founded by Creative Europe, which reached a loyal audience of three million viewers in less than two and a half years. Creative Europe's renewed commitment to the project guarantees OperaVision's operation until December 2020.
