The legendary Catalan tenor Jaume Aragall is at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía this week to prepare for the debut of the ninth class of the Centre Plácido Domingo in Castelló.

The young artists, accompanied by the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) under the direction of Alan Buribayev, will perform excerpts from operas by Mozart and Rossini on Saturday, October 21, at the Auditori in the capital of La Plana at 7:30 p.m.

Aragall, “the most beautiful voice of the 20th century” according to Luciano Pavarotti, joins with this action the list of great voices of opera who work with the young artists of the Centre de Perfeccionament which, in addition to Plácido Domingo himself, includes figures such as the Italian basses Ruggero Raimondi or Luigi Roni, and to which the soprano Mariella Devia will soon be added.

The singers Jorge Álvarez, Arturo Espinosa, Marianna Mappa, Andrea Pellegrini, Annya Pinto, Vicent Romero, Giorgia Rotolo, Elena Schirru, Andrés Sulbarán, Olga Syniakova and Maria Volgina are currently working with Jaume Aragall on fragments of the Mozart-Da Ponte Trilogy and 'The Magic Flute', as well as pieces from the Rossinian operas 'Semiramide', 'La Cenerentola' or 'L'italiana in Algeri'.

In addition, the tenor dedicates part of these masterclasses to the new voices that have joined the Centre Plácido Domingo this September, advising them on both the development of their repertoire and technical matters.

Meanwhile, Alan Buribayev is immersed in rehearsals with the resident orchestra of Les Arts. The Kazakh maestro, music director of the Astana Opera (Kazakhstan) and principal guest conductor of the Japan Century Symphony Orchestra in Osaka, makes his debut with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana with this concert, which includes the overtures to Mozart's 'Don Giovanni' and Rossini's 'Il barbiere di Siviglia'.
