Soprano Mariella Devia teaches bel canto to artists at the Centre Plácido Domingo
21.04.2018
The Italian soprano Mariella Devia, one of the most outstanding divas of bel canto, has given master classes of this repertoire to the artists of the Centre de Perfeccionament Plácido Domingo.
The performer thus joins the list of figures from the operatic scene who have worked with the students of this project based at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, which includes Plácido Domingo himself, along with singers such as Ruggero Raimondi, Gregory Kunde, Cristina Gallardo-Dômas, Sonia Prina or Luigi Roni.
Recognized by critics as one of the great ladies of opera for her vocal agility and high register, accompanied by an absolute mastery of technique, Mariella Devia boasts a 45-year career as the protagonist of essential titles in bel canto.
She debuted at Les Arts with the 'Puccini Gala' conducted by Plácido Domingo in 2008 and presented her first opera on stage with Bellini's 'Norma' in 2015, followed by Donizetti's 'Lucrezia Borgia' in 2017, the first title that the arts center offered via streaming.
Chiusavecchia's soprano, who recently announced that 'Norma' at La Fenice in Venice next May will be her last foray into staged opera, will return to Valencia on June 2.
Mariella Devia, under the direction of Roberto Abbado, stars in the last concert of the subscription season, in which she will sing some of the arias that have cemented her career as a great star of the genre.
Pages such as 'Di mia vita infelice' from 'Tancredi', by Rossini, 'Casta Diva', from 'Norma', by Bellini, or 'Merce dilette amiche' from 'I vespri siciliani', by Verdi, will be interspersed with passages for orchestra such as the overtures to 'Semiramide', by Rossini, or 'Luisa Miller', by Verdi.
