La Fosca, a parody of the opera 'Tosca' by Salvador María Granés, written in verse in one act and four and a half scenes, premiered at the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid on December 22, 1904.

Theatrical parody reached its peak in our country between 1837 and 1918. According to Anselmo Alonso in the program notes, it was a genetically Spanish genre that arose as a reaction "to the invasive fashion of Italian opera in the romantic years."

“Close to the humblest and least favored public, both in language and in the atmosphere recreated from the successful plots of the lyric, the parody transferred the myths of the lyric and made them myths of everyday life,” says Alonso.

'La Fosca' by Salvador María Granés brings together all these characteristics: a parody of pimps, flamenco singers, newly minted socialists and self-important anarchists who are pursued by a Mephistophelean policeman.
