Les Arts celebrates Mozart's birthday with 25 free shows on January 26 and 27

25.01.2019

The Palau de les Arts offers 25 free activities on January 26 and 27 in the different spaces and rooms of the building to celebrate Mozart's birthday with the third edition of 'Mozart Nacht und Tag'.

Les Arts' educational program channels this initiative of 25 uninterrupted hours of activity with opera performances, concert shows and symphonic concerts, recitals, chamber music, coffee talks, educational workshops, readings, film screenings and a DJ session all centered around the figure of the genius from Salzburg and his impact on different artistic disciplines.

From 8:00 p.m. on January 26th until 9:00 p.m. on the 27th, the Main Hall, the Auditori, the Teatre Martín i Soler, the Aula Magistral, the Espai Los Toros and the theater halls' lobbies will host a full program for all audiences, with the exception of the educational workshops, which will be free to access until the capacity of the different spaces is reached.

The launch of the third edition of 'Mozart Nacht und Tag' has been made possible thanks to the selfless collaboration of artists and institutions: the Subdirectorate of Music of the Institut Valencià de Cultura; the Universitat de València, through the departments of English and German Philology; the Joaquín Rodrigo (CSMV), José Iturbi and number 1 Conservatories of València; as well as the Lluís Vives Secondary Institute, the Centre Plácido Domingo, the UNED, the DJ Eduardo Díaz, the OCV soloist Susanna Gregorian, Gourmet Catering & Espacios and Tossal Producciones.

The activity begins at 8:00 p.m. on January 26 with the first performance of the concert show 'Lumina', the first collaboration between Les Arts and the Subdirectorate of Music and Popular Culture of the Institut Valencià de Cultura.

Hilari García directs the singers of the Centre Plácido Domingo and the Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana in this production with stage direction by Allex Aguilera, which links fragments of Mozart's operas with light as a guiding thread.

At the same time, 35 primary school students from the Professional Music Conservatory of Valencia will arrive at the theater around 8:45 p.m. to spend a night at the Palau de les Arts and learn more about Mozart thanks to the work of students from the Master's Degree in Secondary Education Teacher Training, organized by the Department of English and German Philology at the University of Valencia.

At 9:30 p.m., the lobby of the Teatre Martín i Soler will host a piano-accompanied reading of Mozart's letters, performed in collaboration with the German Language students of the Lluís Vives Institute, followed by a violin recital by Susanna Gregorian, a professor with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, in the Teatre Martín i Soler at 10:45 p.m.

And, while the little ones get ready to go to sleep in the Main Hall, the lobby of the Teatre Martín i Soler will be transformed into a lively café to chat about Mozart's letters and exchange opinions about the figure of the genius from Salzburg in a debate organized by the UNED.

From midnight onwards, Les Arts offers two options for night owls: opera or a DJ set. The Teatre Martín i Soler will be transformed into a 380-seat cinema with a screening of the opera 'The Magic Flute', broadcast live from the Garsington Opera House via the OperaVision website.

And, for its part, the lobby of the Aula Magistral will be transformed into a unique dance floor with a DJ music session based on the work of Mozart, with DJ Eduardo Díaz as the creator of the show.

Morning proposals

The morning of the 27th begins with breakfast in the main lobby for the children who spent the night in the Main Hall. This activity, courtesy of Gourmet Catering & Espacios, marks the end of the educational workshop.

From 11:00 a.m. onwards, artistic activity resumes with an uninterrupted cycle of concerts and recitals in the main performance spaces of Les Arts.

While students from the Joaquín Rodrigo Higher Conservatory of Music perform a recital with arias and fragments from the composer's most popular operas in the Aula Magistral, the Espai Los Toros welcomes string instrument students from the same institution to perform the 'String Quartet in D minor K 421' by the genius from Salzburg.

The CSMV Joaquín Rodrigo Symphony Orchestra will make its debut at the Auditori de Les Arts with a midday symphonic concert, featuring works such as Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor and the motet for orchestra and strings, Exsultate, Jubilate. The program will conclude with a tribute to Salvador Giner, a key figure in the establishment of the music school.

The Teatre Martín i Soler, the nerve center of the Mozart marathon, presents at 13.00 'The Impresario', a production by Tossal Producciones of the 'singspiel' 'Der Schauspieldirektor', which the genius composed as a commission from the emperor for some festivities at the Schönbrunn Palace.

This is one of the Salzburg composer's lesser-known operas. The libretto recounts the trials and tribulations of an opera impresario trying to stage a production in imperial Vienna. Les Arts presents this work, which has never been performed at the theater, bringing together former students of the Centre Plácido Domingo under the stage direction of Zvonimir Ostoic.

Simultaneously, the arts center continues its program of concerts and recitals, which includes a string quartet formed by CSMV students with the work 'Las dissonancias K465', at 13.15 in Los Toros, and a chamber music proposal in the Aula Magistral with 'Trio for clarinet, viola and piano in E flat Major K 498'.

The group also known as the 'Kegelstatt Trio' can be heard again at 7:00 p.m., also performed by students from this conservatory on the same stage.

After the midday break, activities resume at 3:30 p.m. in the Aula Magistral. Students from the Professional Music Conservatory Number 1 of Valencia will present a selection of excerpts from one of the composer's most beloved and frequently performed operas: 'Le nozze di Figaro'. For those interested, the arts center informs that the performance will be repeated at 4:45 p.m.

Students from the Joaquín Rodrigo Conservatory headline the afternoon program of recitals and chamber music, which begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Teatre Martín i Soler with the second voice and piano recital of this Mozart marathon. Half an hour later, instrumentalists from the CSMV will perform 'Quintet with Clarinet in A Major, K. 581' at the Espai Los Toros, and at 5:45 p.m., at the Teatre Martín i Soler, they will present one of Mozart's most popular works: 'Eine kleine Nachtmusik K525'.

Meanwhile, flute and guitar students from the José Iturbi Municipal Conservatory of Music will offer a Mozartian divertissement at Espai Los Toros at 7:00 p.m. as the penultimate activity of the day.

The second performance of the concert-show 'Lumina', produced in collaboration with the Subdirectorate of Music of the IVC and the Centre Plácido Domingo, will close the 2019 edition of 'Mozart Nacht und Tag'.
