The Palau de les Arts inaugurates its first cycle dedicated to flamenco on December 21st with a performance by Diego El Cigala at the Auditori.

The concert by the renowned flamenco singer, originally scheduled for November 15th, has been rescheduled at the artist's request. Les Arts confirms that the remaining performances in the 'Les Arts és flamenco' series, featuring Rocío Márquez, Duquende, and Manuel Lombo, will proceed as originally announced.

Les Arts is dedicating a prominent place in its programming to flamenco singing as part of its commitment to diversifying its operatic offerings and reaching a wider audience. To this end, the arts center has put on sale a non-renewable pass that combines all four performances dedicated to this genre, with prices ranging from €137.70 to €162. Individual tickets, meanwhile, range from €30 to €50.

As explained by the artistic director of Les Arts, Jesús Iglesias Noriega, at the presentation of the season, “flamenco, an intangible heritage of humanity, represents one of the most important hallmarks of Spanish culture, whose richness and diversity will be reflected in each of the proposals that will be hosted by both the Auditori and the Teatre Martín i Soler.”

Diego El Cigala is one of the most representative figures of the new trends that the genre has experienced in the last twenty years. His desire to fuse flamenco singing with a diversity of genres and styles has earned him Grammy Awards and the merit of reaching new audiences beyond Spain, especially in Latin America, where he is one of the most beloved artists since recording 'Lágrimas negras' with Bebo Valdés, an album that blends flamenco and Cuban rhythms.

A different facet is represented by Rocío Márquez from Huelva, who has managed to infuse classic flamenco songs with her distinctive voice, as well as other songs she has revived in her latest work, 'Visto en El Jueves' (a reference to a popular Seville flea market where cassette tapes of flamenco legends were and still are sold). She will present this unique side of flamenco at Les Arts on February 22nd at the Teatre Martín i Soler, accompanied by guitar and flamenco guitar.

The show, featuring singing and guitar, and the added attraction of a flamenco ensemble, comes courtesy of Juan Cortés, 'Duquende', a singer from Sabadell, discovered by Camarón de la Isla at just eight years old. Heir to his discoverer's tradition, he is one of the most respected figures for the honesty and profound feeling of his performances, which he will share with the audience at Les Arts on March 13th at the Teatre Martín i Soler.

On April 25, also at the Teatre Martín i Soler, 'Pa'lante y pa'tras' closes the cycle of 'Les Arts és flamenco', a new project by the Sevillian Manuel Lombo, another of the figures who has introduced new blood into cante jondo thanks to his interpretations and compositions from pop or jazz, without renouncing tradition.
