  • With 'Build your opera', the youngest children learn stage vocabulary while reproducing a cut-out of the 'Les Arts Volant' truck.
  • The activity stimulates the creativity of boys and girls through a competition in which they can create and perform their own opera.

Valencia (19.7.20). The Palau de les Arts is teaching children how to build an opera stage at home, thanks to its new educational program, which it is launching this Monday, July 20, on the occasion of the fourth edition of 'Les Arts Volant'.

'Build your opera' is an exercise that combines plastic education and theatrical language with the making of a 1:33 scale cutout of the stage truck with which 'Les Arts Volant' takes opera performances to various points in the Valencian geography.

The aim of this 'Les Arts és Educació' proposal is to develop and expand the creativity of boys and girls, as well as their artistic and cultural knowledge through play and crafts.

'Build your opera' is structured in three phases and can be done at home following the instructions in the video tutorial that Les Arts has edited for this purpose and available at this link .

To make the model, you only need common household materials such as glue, scissors, pen, colored pencils, tape, cardboard boxes, pins… in addition to the printed templates that will serve as a work guide and that can be downloaded from the link provided for this purpose.

The first phase of this proposal is dedicated to building the structure of the stage truck. This process, in addition to stimulating artistic skills, allows the 'future opera producers' to understand and assimilate essential stage vocabulary: the purpose of the backstage area, the different types of curtains, and the dimensions of the stage box, among other things.

Once the cardboard and paper reproduction of 'Les Arts Volant' has been built, the Educational Program proposes a competition for future professionals in the sector: the creation of their own operatic show, for which they must invent a plot, develop their characters, as well as design their own sets and props.

Once you have the result, you must upload a photo of it to the Twitter account @PalauLesArts. Just by participating, you will be entered into a draw to win free admission, along with two guests, to one of the 'Les Arts és Educació' events of the 2020-2021 season.

'Les Arts és Educació' will launch two upcoming installments of 'Build your opera', in which the sets of the two titles that, to date, have been part of the repertoire of 'Les Arts Volant' can be reproduced: 'Bastià i Bastiana', by Mozart; and 'El tutor burlat', by the Valencian Martín i Soler.

'Arts is Education'

Les Arts' educational program has consolidated an offering for the 2020-2021 Season that reaches all ages and audiences: babies, students of Early Childhood Education, Primary Education, Secondary Education, Vocational Training, Special Regime Education, University, Adult Education, as well as having a section dedicated to the family audience.

Shows such as 'Babies Only', 'Sent la música', 'Conta'm una òpera', working sessions such as 'Tots a Cor', 'L'òpera en construcció', 'Un matí amb' or 'Splash', in addition to educational workshops, form the main actions, to which two new shows are added for the new course: 'Arenas musicales' and 'Pulcinella'.

'Les Arts és Educació' is also responsible for other actions such as monitoring and coordinating the LÓVA program ('Opera as a learning vehicle'), planning educational functions of the shows performed at the Teatre Martín i Soler, in addition to collaborations in the university field with the UJI of Castelló, the UPV, the UV and the UNED of Alzira.
