Valencia (5.11.20). María Pagés inaugurates the second edition of the 'Les Arts és Dansa' cycle with the show 'Una oda al tiempo' this Friday, November 6, at 8:00 p.m. in the Main Hall.
Considered one of the leading exponents of Spanish flamenco, María Pagés undertakes an introspective exercise on contemporary life and the necessary dialogue with memory in this production, structured in twelve scenes that aim to reflect on the passage of time.
An artist of enormous personality, María Pagés has received, among other distinctions, the National Dance Award and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts for her aesthetic concept of flamenco dance, which has crossed borders to reach all kinds of audiences, without distorting the essence of this art in the slightest.
Director, choreographer and creator of the costumes for 'An Ode to Time', Pagés, using flamenco and the dramaturgy and texts of El Arbi El Harti, presents an ethical and artistic reflection on the present; she questions the current world; she reviews the light and shadows of our time; she speaks of the ephemeral, eternity and the implacable irreversibility of time on the body, desire, art and life.
Accompanied by four female dancers, four male dancers and seven musicians, the brilliant Sevillian explores Spanish cultural tradition; she revisits flamenco styles, enriching them with the music of Igor Stravinsky, Bernard Herrmann, John Cage, Antonio Vivaldi and Georg Friedrich Händel.
'An Ode to Time' will be performed in the Main Hall on November 6, 7, and 8. Les Arts reminds the public that tickets are priced between 17 and 40 euros.
With the choreographic vision of 'An Ode to Time', Les Arts closes its thematic trilogy around the resilience of the human being, with which it has started the 2020-2021 Season, and which has addressed this issue from the perspective of different artistic disciplines, from symphonic music, with the 'Leningrad' symphony, by Shostakovich, to the opera 'Fin de partie', by Kurtág.
'Les Arts és Flamenco'
Furthermore, November also marks the start of the 'Les Arts és Flamenco' cycle, which for the 2020-2021 Season grows in diversity and number of proposals to bring together the most relevant artists of flamenco singing.
On the 14th, José Mercé will be in charge of inaugurating the monograph that Les Arts dedicates to this genre, with a show that at its beginning is dedicated to the most 'root' styles of flamenco together with his guitarist (Antonio Higuero) and in which the public will also be able to enjoy some of the greatest hits of the Jerez artist.
Duquende will close out November's performances on the 28th at the Teatre Martín i Soler. The singer from Sabadell is another leading figure in flamenco, as well as one of the most respected for the honesty and profound feeling of his interpretations.
