  • Laurent Pelly exhibits the effectiveness and aesthetic sense of comedy in this muntatge co-produced by the Dutch National Opera and the Grand Théâtre de Genève

Valencia (03.12.20). The Palau de les Arts brings together Carlo Rizzi, in musical direction, and Laurent Pelly, in stage direction, for 'La Cenerentola', by Rossini, which will premiere this coming December 10 in the Main Hall.

Les Arts recovers Rossini's comic repertoire in the second program of this new muntatge, co-produced by the Dutch National Opera and the Grand Théâtre de Genève, in which some of the most notable experts in the work of the composer from Pesaro are cited, as explained by Jesús Iglesias Noriega hui in the second presentation.

Returning to the podium is Carlo Rizzi, one of the most notable opera directors of recent times. Invited to major theaters and festivals, Rizzi will debut with the Choir of the Generalitat and the Valencian Community Orchestra (OCV) in 2013 with Verdi's 'Rèquiem'.

Carlo Rizzi has recalled, in this sense, the ductility and capacity of the OCV to address this work by Rossini, which is considered the most appreciated, and represented, title after 'Il barbiere di Siviglia'. The Milanese master, així mateix, has highlighted the need for a great distribution in an opera in which the ensemble numbers take special prominence.

Emerging and consolidated Rossinian performers make up the distribution that will perform 'La Cenerentola' from December 10 to 23 at the Arts, according to Iglesias Noriega.

Rising mezzo-soprano Anna Goryachova (Angelina) caps the production's role in her debut in Valencia. Lawrence Brownlee, who has become one of the leading tenors of bel canto, plays the role of Don Ramiro.

For Don Magnifico's paper, for the first time in the Main Hall, the veteran Saragossa bass-baritone Carlos Chausson will sing, considered one of the great Rossini specialists on the international scene. On the other hand, two emerging performers, the Catalan baritone Carles Pachón (Dandini) and the Italian bassist Riccardo Fassi (Alidoro) fill the cast, in which the Center de Perfectionament performers Larisa Stefan (Clorinda) and Evgeniya Khomutova (Tisbe) also participate.

The renowned French opera and theater director, Laurent Pelly, has made his first work for the Arts with this title, which, according to Iglesias Noriega, marks his commitment to introducing aesthetic novelties into the programming of the most important names of the current scene.

Pelly, renowned for the accurate dramaturgy of his six works, is also the costume designer for this production, with the set by Chantal Thomas, who collaborates with Jean-Jacques Delmotte as an associate costume designer with Duane Schuler in the lighting design.

According to what he explains, in the title 'Cenerentola' he proposes a narrative from a dream point of view, in which everything is the product of the protagonist's mind. “Little by little, Angelina's dream becomes reality and arrives at the end of the show, in which we return to the starting point.”

In the performances of the city in Amsterdam and Geneva, audiences and critics have praised both the dynamism and the sense of humor of the inn in Pelly's scene, without forgetting the elegance of the aesthetic plan, with a predominant phosphorescent pink to embody the magic of the somni of 'La Cenerentola'.

Parallel activities

With the purpose of offering new spaces for music and the rest of artistic disciplines, this summer, December 4, at 7:00 p.m. at the Aula Magistral, 'Berklee a les Arts' presents 'Mediterráneas', a free offering open to the general public, with prior reservation. On this occasion, Berklee students are invited to reflect on different themes inspired by 'La Cenerentola'.

On the other hand, as you see, the Main Hall of the Arts will host the first 'End of 28 Preview' of the season, an activity for which, for the first time, advance sale locations have been sold out. A given that, as Jesús Iglesias Noriega has highlighted, manifests both the interest of the young public in the lyric and the image of the Arts “with a space for all audiences.”

Among the voluntary activities of 'La Cenerentola', on December 9, the Aula Magistral will host a free col·loqui of the cycle 'Perspectives', performed in collaboration with Friends of Opera and Arts of the Valencian Community, in which Carlo Rizzi, Carlos Chausson and Carles Pachón They will talk about this production.

'Cinderella'

Gioachino Rossini will need only three weeks to write the music for 'La Cenerentola'. The piece begins with an incarceration of the young composer by the Teatre Valle de Roma after the success of Il barbiere di Siviglia. Jacopo Ferretti is the author of the text, based on the fade count 'La Ventafocs', by Charles Perrault and on the books by Charles-Guillaume Étienne and Francesco Fiorini.

It will be the mate Rossini who will direct the premiere of the play on January 25, 1817. Despite the slow failure of the first performances, the play will quickly gain great popularity both in Italy and outside the country.

In this variation of the traditional Perrault story, the evil stepmother is replaced by a stepfather, Don Magnifico, and part of the protective Fada appears Alidoro, philosopher and tutor of the prince. It is a bracelet and not the popular glass bracelet that reveals the authentic identity of Angelina, Ventafocs.
