Valencia (30.04.21). The Palau de les Arts is scheduling two performances of 'Pulcinella' this Sunday, May 2nd, open to all audiences. This educational production combines symphonic repertoire and theater, allowing young people to enjoy their first experience with classical music.

Music and words come together in a show based on Igor Stravinsky's 'Pulcinella' suite, in which the educator and actress Ana Hernández-Sanchiz narrates this musical tale, while embodying the main character of the story, while the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana performs the score of the brilliant Russian composer under the direction of Ignacio García-Vidal.

'Pulcinella' is based on the ballet of the same name, for soprano, tenor, bass and orchestra, which the composer wrote about the character Pulcinella, originally from the Commedia dell'Arte. For its creation, Stravinsky orchestrated music attributed to the Baroque composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi (1710-1736).

The work premiered on May 15, 1920 by Diaghilev's Ballets Russes at the Paris Opera, with choreography by Leonid Massine and sets and costumes by Pablo Picasso.

Two years later, Stravinsky composed the suite, comprising 11 of the 18 parts of the ballet. In it, the voices are replaced by instruments that interpret the vocal lines. 'Pulcinella', which marked the beginning of the composer's neoclassical period, is considered one of the most beautiful pieces of 20th-century music.

The score by the composer of 'The Rite of Spring' also marks the debut of Ignacio García-Vidal (Cocentaina, 1979) with the resident orchestra of Les Arts. The conductor is one of Valencia's most established leading figures; with a busy schedule and a promising career, García-Vidal is also known for his strong commitment to educational initiatives and making music accessible to all audiences.

The Auditori de Les Arts will host two family performances of this show this Sunday at 10:00 and 12:30, with tickets priced at 7 and 9 euros. The 'Pulcinella' suite is primarily aimed at children aged 4 to 12.
