Valencia (21.07.21). The Palau de les Arts has filled nine positions for the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana as a result of the audition process that ended last week.
Thus, starting in the 2021-22 season, the Les Arts main ensemble will increase its permanent staff in the string section with a solo viola, a 'tutti' viola, two 'tutti' cellos and five 'tutti' violins, in addition to the concertmaster position, already filled in a previous process.
By country of origin, five of the selected musicians are Spanish, one of whom is from Valencia. The remaining winners of the selection process hold English, Polish, Romanian, and Ukrainian passports.
According to Jesús Iglesias Noriega, artistic director of Les Arts: “The high caliber of the applicants and the filling of positions with candidates of international profile demonstrate the prestige of the institution. Furthermore, it fulfills one of the main objectives set by the board of trustees for this new phase of Les Arts: to provide the OCV with a framework of stability to guarantee its artistic growth.”
“With the filling of the positions and the appointment of James Gaffigan as musical director, the OCV begins a period of consolidation in which to face new and exciting projects,” Jesús Iglesias Noriega pointed out.
Last March, the management of Les Arts launched the first public job offer for the OCV since 2015 with the aim of enhancing the quality of the ensemble and meeting the orchestra's needs in terms of a minimum stable permanent staff.
More than 400 candidates of international profile participated in the auditions at Les Arts, which have been held under the strictest health and safety measures.
Throughout the 2021-22 season, the remaining positions will be announced, allowing Les Arts to achieve its goal of having a permanent orchestra of 74 musicians.
