Valencia (09.11.2022). Les Arts premieres this week 'Cal·líope', a new production in which audiences over 10 years old can discover and learn the history of music through a fun and fresh show, which combines music, theatre and humor.

'Cal·líope' is based on an original idea by Jaume Policarpo, who also wrote the text and directed the stage production, and features musical arrangements by Gonzalo Manglano.

This new production by 'Les Arts és Educació', lasting approximately one hour, will be performed within the educational program for school groups of fifth and sixth grade of Primary School, and for Secondary School courses whose curricular objectives include the history of music.

Likewise, the Teatre Martín i Soler will host four performances planned for family audiences on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November, with sessions at 12:00 and 17:00 h.

Director and creator Jaume Policarpo draws on the nine muses of Greek mythology to give this show its title. He chooses Calliope, the muse of eloquence and epic poetry, as the protagonist, as she is the most suitable of them all to narrate this story, performed in Valencian, which centers on the vision of music throughout history.

The show tells the story of the evolution of music, from prehistory to the present day, in an entertaining and accessible way for all audiences, interspersing musical moments with dialogues and gags full of humor.

According to Policarpo, 'Cal·líope' has a very theatrical and sensory staging, full of vibrant colors and striking shapes, in which the actors Arianne Algarra and Gonzalo Manglano, as well as the singers and musicians, bring the different characters to life.

Soprano Iria Goti, mezzo-soprano Laura Orueta, baritone Alejandro Sánchez and pianist José Alberto Sancho from the Centre de Perfeccionament de Les Arts will join other artists and musicians such as Valencian tenor Álvaro Diana, cellist Gustavo Lapresta and flautist Gilles Stoesel in the different performances of 'Cal·líope'.

The musical repertoire ranges from the first musical notes of primitive man to the latest avant-garde movements, without forgetting essential composers such as Monteverdi, Bach, Handel, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Schumann, Richard Strauss or Debussy, among others.

'Cal·líope' also invites viewers to reflect by highlighting the great gender disparity that exists in the world of music and focusing, in addition, on those largely forgotten by history, with mention of composers such as the French Lili Boulanger, who developed her work at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries.

Tickets to see 'Cal·liope' are now available on the Les Arts website https://www.lesarts.com/es/ for €15. To make the show accessible to the whole family, a reduced price of €10 per person is offered with the purchase of a minimum of four tickets.
