Valencia (December 27, 2022). Les Arts begins the year by dedicating the month of January to the 'Les Arts és Músiques Valencianes' series, in which various groups singing in Valencian will perform on the opera house's stage. Audiences will be able to enjoy artists as diverse as Pep Gimeno 'Botifarra', Neus Ferri, the Marala trio, the duo of Mireia Vives and Borja Penalba, and the singer Esther.
The first to visit Les Arts will be Pep Gimeno, 'Botifarra', on January 13th at 8:00 pm. The Xàtiva native, who has dedicated his life to recovering and promoting the music of the villages, will bring his show of traditional Valencian music to the Auditori, where he will present his new album 'Ja ve l'aire', which will be released at the beginning of this year.
This album is titled in honor of the homonymous single from his new work, performed together with the singer Noelia Llorens, 'Titana', in which he brings a new sound to traditional work songs, while at the same time vindicating the essential role of women in the agricultural world.
In the concert and the promotional tour that will follow, Gimeno, the main reference of traditional Valencian music, will be accompanied by a band made up of Tóbal Rentero, Jordi Pastor, Robert Moreno, Miquel Pérez and Martina Sabariego, as well as other guest artists.
Next up in the series is Neus Ferri from Alcoy, known for collaborating with artists like Sole Giménez and Melendi. The singer will perform on Friday, January 20th, at the Aula Magistral of Les Arts, where she will promote 'Llar', her third studio album.
Both Ferri herself and critics have considered 'Llar', her first album in Valencian, to be the most intimate she has released to date. The singer-songwriter from Alcoy won the Carles Santos Award for Valencian Music for best pop album for this tribute to family, love, hope, and life.
On Saturday the 21st, the musical trio Marala will take the stage. The trio, comprised of Sandra Monfort from Pedreguera, Selma Bruna from Catalonia, and Clara Fiol from Mallorca, will be performing. The recent winners of the Carles Santos Award for best album of the year and best traditional folk music album will present their latest work, 'Jota de morir', released last September.
Inspired by the music of their communities, Marala revisits traditional singing and modernizes it by fusing genres and using socially critical lyrics that address various topics such as feminism or heritage conservation.
The next date in the 'Les Arts és Músiques Valencianes' series is January 27th, with a special concert by Mireia Vives and Borja Penalba. The duo recently announced their separation after more than ten years together. As part of their farewell tour, 'Punt ia part', they will perform songs from the three albums they have released together.
Singer Esther will close the series with a pop concert on January 28th. The young artist from Vinaròs, who had a successful debut with her first album 'Les teues ales', will present her next project, 'Les cartes que mai vaig cremar', her first full-length album, released last December.
'Les Arts és Músiques Valencianes'
This is the first season in which Les Arts dedicates an entire cycle to Valencian music, a fact that reflects the institution's commitment to the variety of musical groups in the territory.
It is for this reason that the cycle explores the different styles and expressions of the current music scene of the Valencian Community: proposals that combine the traditional, pop, rock, roots music, mestizo music, singer-songwriter music…
Tickets for Pep Gimeno's 'Botifarra' concert range from €10 to €18, while the other performances in the series, which will take place on the Aula Magistral stage at Les Arts, have a single price of €10. Tickets are available now on the Les Arts website.
