Valencia (09.01.23). The city of Valencia will host, between February 9 and 11, the Fronteras festival, a cultural event in which some of the most respected writers and musicians on the national scene will meet around music and literature.
Fronteras will include talks, recitals, and concerts held in various spaces at Les Arts. In addition, the Valencia Municipal Public Library Network will host workshops for all ages focusing on music, writing, and the relationship between the two. All activities are free and open to the public, with prior registration required at <festivalfronteras.com>.
The festival's literary direction is overseen by writer and journalist Jesús Ruiz Mantilla. As he notes: “(...) lyrics and music have gone hand in hand. They have transformed lives, stirred consciences, and forged a powerful bond of identification with societies by defining dreams, aspirations, and desires for change, while at the same time describing disappointments, dramas, defeats, and frustrations. Between irony, catharsis, and poetic inspiration, musicians have acted as poets or storytellers, and writers as singers.”
The Councillor for Cultural Action of the Valencia City Council, Maite Ibáñez, explained that “this festival opens a new way of understanding literature and music through their creators.” She also stated that “it is one of the major cultural developments of 2023, enriching the wide range of festivals we enjoy in Valencia, which are a hallmark of the city.”
For his part, Jesús Iglesias Noriega, artistic director of Les Arts, frames Fronteras within the vocation of opening up the theater and its different spaces to broaden its social base.
“Les Arts must be a great center for art, but also much more than that: a cultural center in the broadest sense of the term, a place for the exchange of ideas and a meeting point between works, artists, and the public. A place of curiosity and openness that allows us to enjoy the artistic experience, but also leads the public to reflect and contributes to the debate on issues that affect our environment.”
The Fronteras festival is organized by the Department of Cultural Action of the Valencia City Council together with Les Arts, and La Fábrica is in charge of coordination.
The full program and participants in the festival will be announced at a press conference to be held next Friday, January 20th at Les Arts.
