Valencia (15.01.2023). Les Arts continues this week with the 'Les Arts és Músiques Valencianes' program after the success of last Friday's performance by Pep Gimeno, 'Botifarra', who sold out the Auditori for the presentation of his new album, 'Ja ve l'aire'.
The winners of the Carles Santos awards, Neus Ferri and Marala, will be the protagonists of the concerts that will be held this weekend at the Aula Magistral of Les Arts, which becomes the reference stage for the activities of this cycle.
Neus Ferri, from Alcoy, known for reaching the semi-finals of the first season of 'La Voz' in 2012 and for collaborating with artists such as Sole Giménez and Melendi, will be the second artist in this series to perform at Les Arts. Ferri will perform songs from her 2022 album, 'Llar', her first album written in Valencian, on Friday the 20th at 8:00 pm in the Aula Magistral.
This album, which in his own words “is undoubtedly the most intimate album I’ve released so far,” was composed over two years without any specific form in mind. However, over time the project gained momentum until he was able to assemble a trusted team and record it in his hometown.
In 'Llar', Ferri sings to his "family, to those who came before and those who will come, to love, to hope, to grief, to human behavior and to life." This project, which he has described as a process of self-validation and a return home, earned him an award for best pop album at the 5th Carles Santos Awards for Valencian Music last December.
Ferri will present this album at Les Arts, which combines pop, rock and folk, as well as hits from his previous works, in what will be a concert full of collaborations and other surprises that will delight the audience.
Marala
On Saturday the 21st, it will be Marala's turn. This group, formed in 2018, comprises Sandra Monfort from Pedreguera, Selma Bruna from Catalonia, and Clara Fiol from Mallorca. The acclaimed trio swept the Carles Santos Awards, taking home the prizes for best album of the year and best traditional folk music album with their latest work, 'Jota de morir', released last September, which they will present at Les Arts.
Inspired by the music of their communities, Marala revisits traditional singing and modernizes it, fusing genres and using socially critical lyrics that address various topics such as feminism or heritage conservation.
In their latest album 'Jota de morir', the trio tries to demystify death through their youthful and rooted music, and recover 'forgotten' forms such as the Valencian 'cants de batre' or 'balls de vetlla', the Balearic death songs, romances, Sephardic-inspired tunes and war laments.
Marala will offer a show this Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in the Aula Magistral of Les Arts, where the trio of singers and composers will exchange instruments throughout the concert and even sing certain songs 'a cappella', bravely showing their voices and honoring tradition.
Les Arts és Músiques Valencianes
This is the first season in which Les Arts dedicates an entire cycle to Valencian music, and it is hoped that it will serve as a musical appetizer for all those who want to discover the variety of music from the Valencian Community.
Next week it will be the turn of Mireia Vivies and Borja Penalba, with their farewell concert on Friday, January 27, and Esther, who will present her new album on Saturday the 28th, as the closing of the cycle.
Tickets to enjoy the performances in this series have a single, affordable price of 10 euros, and are now available on the Les Arts website.
