Valencia (January 13, 2023). Gustavo Gimeno and Javier Perianes, recognized as two of the leading names on the international music scene, will inaugurate the 2023 Les Arts symphony season. The Valencian maestro will conduct pianist Javier Perianes and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in a program featuring works by Brahms and Mozart, which can be heard in Valencia on January 26 and in Castelló de la Plana on January 28.
Gimeno will be the undisputed star of January, in a highly anticipated double bill featuring the first-ever performance in theater history of Janáček's 'Jeněfa', which will also mark his return to the pit of the Main Hall eight years after his memorable debut, and his annual appointment with the OCV in 'Les Arts és Simfònic', a must-see since 2019.
On this occasion, the principal conductor of the Luxembourg Philharmonic and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra has selected a romantic repertoire, which includes, in addition to Johannes Brahms' 'Tragic Overture', his 'First Symphony', an essential work and still unpublished in the OCV catalog, which, in addition to broadening the musical horizons of the ensemble, will allow us to enjoy its sonic excellence.
The program is completed with Mozart's 'Piano Concerto No. 20', which also marks the OCV's reunion with one of the most beloved soloists among the Valencian public, Javier Perianes, who on this occasion performs one of his favorite works, with which he has visited the main auditoriums of the world.
The Huelva native, who, among other accolades, boasts awards such as the National Music Prize and the Artist of the Year award at the International Classical Music Awards, is also repeating his collaboration with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana and Gustavo Gimeno, following his "stratospheric" performance – as described by critics – of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 in the 2020-2021 season.
