Valencia (February 16, 2023). Les Arts presents the 'Mozart Marathon', a multidisciplinary project focused on celebrating the work and life of the Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791). Organized in collaboration with Turisme de la Comunitat Valenciana, it includes more than 30 cultural activities from February 27 to March 12.

After the excellent reception of the editions dedicated to Rossini and Verdi, the performances of the opera 'Don Giovanni' in the Main Hall, with which Les Arts culminates the 'Da Ponte Trilogy', which began in 2019, are the reference point of the 'Mozart Marathon'.

For two intense weeks, the figure of the genius from Salzburg and his transcendence in Western culture will be the central focus of the 2023 proposals, with an agenda in Alicante, Castelló and València featuring opera, concerts, recitals, conferences, colloquiums, workshops, family activities and film screenings.

In addition to the artists from the Centre de Perfeccionament and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV), the musical program will be enriched by the participation of other artistic assets of the Comunitat such as the students of the higher conservatories of Music of València and Castelló, the students of the professional conservatories of Music of València, Torrent and Requena, the Orquestra Filharmònica de la Universitat de València (OFUV) and the pianists Carlos Apellániz, Claudio Carbó, José Songel and Juan Songel.

The various musical programs will cover Mozart's rich output, with special attention to his chamber and piano music.

Les Arts and its different rooms will share the headquarters of the 'Mozart Marathon' with different stages in the three provinces, La Nau, the Filmoteca, La Beneficiència, the Auditori de CaixaForum València, the Picassent Penitentiary Center, the Auditori-Escola de Guardamar del Segura, the Universitat Jaume I of Castelló or the Santa María de Requena Church.

The musical program will be complemented by extensive educational and outreach activities, in addition to Les Arts' usual offerings. Ramon Gener will give a lecture entitled 'MUSIC=MOZART' on March 1st at 7:30 pm in the Auditori de Les Arts, accompanied by singers from the Centre de Perfeccionament.

Meanwhile, 'Perspectives', the talk and discussion series organized by Amics de l'Òpera i de les Arts de la Comunitat Valenciana (AOA) about the various operatic titles in the program, will analyze the production of 'Don Giovanni' with the cast and crew on Wednesday, March 8. This event will be preceded by the recital 'Mozartian Fantasy' performed by violinist Susanna Gregorian of the Valencian Community Orchestra (OCV) and pianist and musical coordinator of Les Arts, Stanislav Angelov.

Simultaneously, on the same day at 7:00 p.m., the event 'Women and Mozart' will take place at the La Beneficència Cultural Center, featuring a reading of letters written by the composer to various women in his life, including his older sister Maria Anna, known as 'Nannerl'. This reading will be presented by the Lluís Vives Institute and complemented by OCV professors Samuel Espinosa and Carles Civera.

In collaboration with Les Arts, on March 3rd and 9th, at 8:00 pm and 6:00 pm respectively, the Filmoteca de València will also screen the musical film 'Don Giovanni' (1979) by American director Joseph Losey. This adaptation, which respects both the original score and libretto, stars the legendary baritone Ruggero Raimondi with musical accompaniment by the Paris Opera Orchestra.

Also noteworthy are the activities included in Les Arts' educational program and part of the marathon. In addition to the regular workshops 'Opera in Progress' and 'A Morning With…', the new family-friendly event 'The Mystery of Leporello', taking place on Friday, March 3rd at 7:30 pm, introduces this Mozart character and highlights his fundamental role within the opera's narratives.

The live stream of the final performance of 'Don Giovanni' on February 12 will close the 'Mozart Marathon'. Les Arts will offer the opera's signal free of charge to municipalities and musical associations in the Valencian Community that wish to participate in this initiative.
