Valencia (03/20/23). Les Arts arrived this March with the second edition of the cycle 'Les Arts és Barroc i Música Antiga', which has been co-produced by the National Center for Musical Diffusion (CNDM).

Over the course of two sets, the historicist groups La Tendresa, Concerto 1700, Capella de Ministrers and Al Ayre Español will pass on the stage of the Teatre Martín i Soler to take the public on a journey through the music of the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, according to the artistic director of Les Arts, Jesús Iglesias. Noriega, at a press conference. This is the second foray of the 2022-2023 season into musical Baroc, after the successful concert version of Alcina, which will be conducted by Marc Minkowski in the Main Hall.

Iglesias Noriega has described the initiative as “an ambitious commitment to Spanish musical heritage in the spirit of the Baroque, with a prior look at the styles that will be founded on its bases: the Modern Age and the Renaissance.”

The director of Les Arts has been accompanied by Francisco Lorenzo, director of the CNDM. Lorenzo has celebrated the continuity of the purpose, which is marked in the actions of the institution “for the recovery, vindication and dissemination of historical music through the main references”.

In this sense, the director of the CNDM has confirmed that, in the same way as in the first edition, the cycle will once again share both representation of the Valencian musical scene, with the presence of La Tendresa, with Èlia Casanova in the double role of director and soprano, and a new performance by Capella de Ministrers, with which Carles Magraner The sign saying 'you have not entered' is going to appear any longer.

Així mateix, Jesús Iglesias Noriega has also mentioned that Les Arts, in order to open to new audiences and establish new synergies with the cultural circuit, has launched a promotional action for which it will give away a guided tour of Sant Nicolau, the greatest exponent of the Valencian Baroque, to everyone who acquires one location for this cycle.

'Baroque and Early Music'

'Les Arts és Barroc y Música Antiga' begins this Sunday, March 22, at 7:30 p.m., with the Valencian ensemble of Elia Casanova and La Tendresa, which will take on the stage of the Teatre Martín i Soler. In their program 'L'universo sulla pelle', the sopranos Èlia Casanova, founder and director of the group, and Quiteria Muñoz, will perform a repertoire of àries, cantates and madrigals from the 'Seicento' Italy that have as their main theme love and passion.

'L'universo sulla pelle' explores different composers of the 17th century with Benedetto Ferrari, Stefano Landi, Tarquinio Merula, Giovanni Battista da Gagliano, Giovanni Felice Sances, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Barbara Strozzi, Andrea Falconieri, Giovanni Paolo Colonna and Giovanni Girolamo Kapsberger.

This work will be worth, in 2019, the Carles Santos Award for the best album for the recovery of musical heritage, recognizing that it will highlight the outstanding work of restoring ancient musical fish and its various interpretation methods, which differ from those of today.

On March 23, at 7:30 p.m., Concerto 1700 will begin, which, led by Daniel Pinteño, has established itself as one of the most reputed historical groups in the country. For its debut at Les Arts, the CDNM's resident group this season will revisit 'La arrogance abashed by the humility of San Miguel', an oratori by the alzirenc Francisco Fernández Illana in which the countertenor Gabriel Díaz (San Miguel), the tenor Diego Blázquez (Luzbel), the soprano Aurora Peña (Ángel) and the 'mezzo-soprano' Adriana Mayer will perform. (Devil).

The oratori, which tells how the archangel Sant Miquel defeats Llucifer, the Diable, was composed by Illana in 1727 and premiered in the church of the Congregation of Sant Felip Neri in Valencia later, in 1728, when Illana occupied the position of mestre de capella of Corpus Christi.

Capella de Ministrers opened the second week of 'Les Arts és Barroc i Música Antiga' on December 29, at 7:30 p.m. After its successful program 'Madre de Devs' in 2021, the most international Valencian group returns to the Teatre Martín i Soler to present 'Mediterrània. A sea of music', which is conceived as a vindication of the cultural ties between the different towns of the Mediterranean.

For now, the group led by Carles Magraner has prepared a mostly Neapolitan selection that not only includes anonymous works from the traditional repertoire, but also cultured music by composers of the Renaissance and the Baroque such as Antonio Valente, Athanasius Kircher, Giovan Leonardo Primavera, Lucas Ruiz de Ribayaz, Vicenzo Fontana, Andrea Falconieri, Girolamo Frescobaldi, Claudio Monteverdi or Stefano Landi.

In the apartat de veus, two Mediterranean performers with the Valencian soprano Èlia Casanova and the Italian tenor Pino de Vittorio will accompany Capella de Ministrers to the stage of the Teatre Martín i Soler.

Eduardo López Banzo will be in charge of closing the second edition of the cycle with the seua formació, Al Ayre Español, and the Navarrese mezzo-soprano Maite Beaumunt. The harpsichordist and director, who will direct in 2008 the first baroque performance of Les Arts amb 'Orlando', by Händel, intends to discover the musical world of the Madrid organist and composer José de Torres, master of the Capella Reial and key figure of the Spanish Baroc.

Under the heading of 'Afectos Lovers', on December 31, at 7:30 p.m., the prestigious group will offer an unavoidable chamber concert for lovers of the Baroc sound, in which Banzo recovers some of the songs to the Santíssim written by Torres, with the beautiful 'Afectos Lovers', in the expressive version of Maite Beaumont, interspersed between sonates by Händel and anonymous fishes from the beginning of the 18th century.
