'Les Arts és Grans Veus'

  • It offers a varied program that, in addition to its essential bel canto arias, includes Verdi, Puccini and works from the Renaissance repertoire
  • His inseparable piano duo, Vincenzo Scalera, will accompany him on his return to Les Arts

Valencia (May 23, 2023). The celebrated Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez returns to Les Arts twelve years after his last visit in 2011 to headline an unmissable recital in the Main Hall on Sunday, May 28 at 7:00 p.m.

Although the Lima native is recognized as a virtuoso bel canto singer, in this performance he will tackle a wide program that explores different eras and styles of lyric singing: from the Renaissance and Baroque to 'bel canto' and Italian verismo.

Thus, the one considered by Pavarotti himself as his worthy successor will face an evening that includes songs by the Renaissance Giulio Caccini and the Baroque Giacomo Carissimi, as well as arias from operas by Gluck ('Paride ed Elena'), Rossini ('Il signor Bruschino', 'Semiramide'), Lalo ('Le roi d'Ys'), Gounod ('Roméo et Juliette'), Donizetti ('La favorite'), Verdi ('Un ballo in maschera', 'Luisa Miller') and Puccini ('Le Villi').

The return of the "tenor of tenors" to Les Arts also generates great anticipation because of the battery of encores he always reserves for the end of his recitals, which usually include the most emblematic pieces of his repertoire.

He will be accompanied on the visit by his favorite pianist, Vincenzo Scalera, whose long professional relationship with the singer has taken the duo to the most important opera houses and concert halls in the world, such as the opera houses of Vienna and Paris, La Scala, Carnegie Hall, the Teatro Real or the Palau de les Arts itself.

Scalera will also perform piano works throughout the recital, such as the 'Danse Sibérienne', from Rossini's 'Péchés de vieillesse'; 'Berceuse', from Godard's 'Jocelyn', and the piano solo 'Foglio d'album', by Puccini.

Flórez has visited the Valencian coliseum on four different occasions in the past to offer recitals and concerts, among which the collaboration he made with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) for his album 'Bel Canto Spectacular', recorded in the Auditori in 2007, stands out.

This recital will bring to a close the 'Les Arts és Grans Veus' cycle, which has made it possible to bring top-level and renowned singers this season, such as the mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli, who made her long-awaited debut at Les Arts last November, or Juan Diego Flórez himself.

Les Arts reports that the last tickets for this concert are still available.
