Valencia (22.06.2023). 'Les Arts Volant' celebrates its seventh edition with a new production, the Valencian version of the opera 'Cendrillon' ('La Ventafocs') by Pauline Viardot, which kicks off this coming June 23 in the town of Petrés at 10:00 p.m.

'Les Arts Volant' will premiere its third new production since its inception in the town of El Camp de Morvedre: a wild and fresh reinvention of Viardot's opera, directed by Joan Font. The founder of Comediants will adapt his hilarious staging of 'Cendrillon,' which triumphed last February at the Teatre Martín i Soler, to the requirements of the mobile stage truck, while maintaining its full artistic quality.

Between June 23 and July 22, the Les Arts touring opera company will visit a total of 16 open-air squares in municipalities in the provinces of Alicante, Valencia and Castellón, where residents can enjoy a free evening of opera in the fresh air, with the same quality standards as in their performances in the Calatrava building.

In order to accommodate the extensive performance schedule, Les Arts has established two casts for 'La Ventafocs'. On the one hand, the performers from the current graduating class of the Centre de Perfeccionament, who starred in the French version, will reprise their roles: Rosa Dávila, Mariana Sofía, Iria Goti, Marcelo Solís, Maximiliano Spósito, pianist Ignacio Aparisi, and Valencian tenor Álvaro Diana.

The second cast will also include artists from the Opera Studio of Les Arts, along with Valencian singers, or those trained in Valencia, and former students of the Centre de Perfeccionament: Laura Orueta, pianist José Alberto Sancho, Saray García, Elena Zamudio, Federica di Trapani, Marc Sala and Gonzalo Manglano.

'Les Arts Volant'

'Les Arts Volant' is a project carried out by Les Arts, with the collaboration of the Valencian Government's Department of Culture, the Provincial Council of Valencia and the City Council of Valencia, which responds to the desire to open the programming of Les Arts to all our geography: from the neighborhoods of the big cities to the regions of the three provinces.

During the months of June and July, the 'La Ventafocs' tour will make 16 stops in the following municipalities: Petrés (6/23), L'Eliana (6/25), Tuéjar (6/28), Banyeres de Mariola (6/29), La Font d'en Carròs (1/7), Riola (2/7), Geldo (7/7), Ademuz (8/7), Guardamar del Segura (7/9), Fontanars dels Alforins (7/12), Borriana (7/13), Benifaió (7/15), Emperador (7/16), Ador (7/19), Vistabella del Maestrat (7/20) and, finally, L'Alcúdia de Crespins (7/22).

About production

Les Arts premiered 'Cendrillon' at the Teatre Martín i Soler last February, a new production of the operatic version of 'Cinderella', composed by Pauline Viardot, one of the most important figures in European cultural life in the 19th century.

The founder of Comediants, Joan Font, presented a totally innovative proposal from a scenic point of view, with set design by Manuel Zuriaga, costumes by José María Adame and lighting by Nadia García, but he also introduced a new dramaturgical framework, with an exercise of theater within theater to insert Viardot's salon opera.

Joan Font has also taken it upon himself to update it, with more agile and accessible dialogues and musical numbers unrelated to the original score, as a nod to the popular French and Spanish variety shows of the time.

In his version for the stage truck, Joan Font, a true expert in street theatre, opts for an even more dynamic approach to engage the audience from the very beginning. Enedina Lloris is responsible for the Valencian translation.
