  • 'Pan y Toros' will be performed in the Main Hall on November 4, 8, 11 and 12

Young audiences enthusiastically welcomed yesterday's preview of 'Pan y toros' by Asenjo Barbieri, marking the return of zarzuela to the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía's program.

Thursday's performance, reserved for those under 29, has become the most successful performance of this genre since Les Arts launched this initiative to bring young audiences closer to opera in 2019.

After the performance ended, the audience gave the cast, the creative and artistic team, the Cor de la Generalitat and the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana a standing ovation of more than seven minutes.

Juan Echanove, who was in charge of welcoming the spectators before the start of the performance, made his debut as a stage director in lyric theater with this production of 'Pan y toros' for the Teatro de la Zarzuela.

The production, which has enjoyed excellent public and critical reception in its performances in Madrid and Oviedo, can be seen at Les Arts from November 4 to 12.

Guillermo García Calvo takes over as musical director after the excellent reception of his first foray into the genre with the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana in 'La tabernera del puerto' in 2019. The cast includes prominent zarzuela performers, such as Ruth Iniesta, Carol García, Borja Quiza, Enrique Viana, Amparo Navaro, and Pedro Mari Sánchez, among others.
