Valencia (14.11.23). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía joins the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of Maria Callas with the lyrical-theatrical show 'Diva', by Albert Boadella, which will be performed from November 23 to 26 at the Teatre Martín i Soler.
In this work, the renowned playwright recalls the final years of 'La Divina,' who, secluded in her Paris apartment, takes refuge in a world of memories. Onassis has died, her voice is fading, but she remains determined to perform a repertoire she will never be able to sing again.
Theatre and opera merge in 'Diva', starring soprano Maria Rey-Joly, in the role of Maria Callas, and tenor and pianist Antonio Comas as her répétiteur, as well as 'alter ego' of her imaginary Onassis.
Mythical roles from 'La Divina' make up the operatic repertoire of the show. Tragedies such as 'Tosca', 'Il trovatore', 'Madama Butterfly', or 'Norma' set to music the unfortunate existence of the soprano and her decline, accompanied musically by the Royal Philharmonic of Galicia, in a recording under the direction of Manuel Coves.
Albert Boadella is keeping his usual team for this genre of production, with Martina Cabana as assistant director, Bernat Jansá in charge of lighting, Dolors Caminal as art advisor, Silvia Brossa as choreographer, and Pedro Lastra in charge of sound design.
In total, Les Arts has scheduled four performances of 'Diva' on November 23, 24, 25, and 26 at the Teatre Martín i Soler. Tickets are priced at a single rate of 28 euros.
