Already acclaimed as a leading pit orchestra, the OCV consolidates its symphonic profile in the main auditorium of Spain's capital.
Valencia (1.8.26). The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) will have its first own cycle at the National Auditorium of Madrid starting in the 2026-2027 Season: 'Les Arts en Madrid', which will include three concerts by the resident ensemble of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía under the direction of Sir Mark Elder, Mikko Franck and Thomas Hengelbrock.
Acclaimed unanimously as a leading pit orchestra, the OCV thus consolidates its symphonic profile after its successful performances in the main Spanish auditoriums and festivals during the last few years, among which stand out: the Santander International Festival, the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, the Granada Festival, the Catalan Palau de la Música or the National Auditorium itself.
Thomas Hengelbrock will inaugurate the season in Madrid on November 15 with a program entirely dedicated to German Romanticism. Accompanied by one of the most renowned violinists of our time, Christian Tetzlaff, the resident ensemble of Les Arts will perform Brahms's 'Violin Concerto,' an absolute cornerstone of the genre, in a program that also includes another essential composer of this period, Robert Schumann, and one of his lesser-known symphonies, Symphony No. 2.
Mikko Franck will culminate his long-awaited debut with the OCV in Madrid on February 14, 2027, with a captivating journey through French Impressionism, using the sea and the dream world as its guiding thread. The program will open with 'Poème de l'amour et de la mer', a song cycle for voice and orchestra by Ernest Chausson featuring the renowned tenor Michael Spyres. This will be followed by Claude Debussy's 'Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune', and the concert will conclude with the monumental 'La Mer', one of the signature works of the Les Arts orchestra.
Sir Mark Elder, the institution's music director, will close the OCV's season in the Spanish capital on May 13, 2027, with an evening dedicated to Russian repertoire. On the program, Stravinsky's 'Scherzo à la russe', Shostakovich's irreverent 'Symphony No. 9', and, as a conclusion, a selection from Tchaikovsky's ballet 'The Sleeping Beauty' will be featured, marking the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana's upcoming performances that same month, including a visit to the Úbeda Festival (14) and its debut at the Maestranza in Seville (15).
