Valencia (24.6.25). The Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía closes its cycle dedicated to dance with the tragedy of 'Romeo and Juliet' in the poetic and exquisite choreography of Jean-Christophe Maillot for the Ballets de Monte-Carlo, with four performances in the Main Hall from June 26 to 29.

The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, under the direction of Garret Keast, performs from the pit the sublime ballet by Sergei Prokofiev, considered one of the most beautiful scores of all time, with passages such as the 'Dance of the Knights', which has already transcended as one of the great icons of the symphonic repertoire.

Praised by critics and audiences alike, Maillot's innovative choreographic proposal tackles William Shakespeare's tragedy from the perspective of Friar Lawrence, the Franciscan confessor of both lovers who, through flashbacks, reflects on the couple's unhappy end.

Maillot sets aside the disputes and rivalries between Capulets and Montagues to approach the story as a true drama that - ultimately - causes the death of two young people united by love and not by hate.

Since its premiere in 1996, 'Romeo and Juliet' has been one of the flagship pieces of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo. With over 400 performances, the company has captivated audiences in major European capitals with this "youthful and energetic" show, which allows viewers to enjoy the "elegant refinement" of the "spectacular" Monegasque corps de ballet, as noted by leading specialized media outlets.

The Main Hall of Les Arts will host four performances of 'Romeo and Juliet' on June 26, 27, 28, and 29. Tickets can be purchased through the theater's various sales channels: box office, the sales line 96 197 59 00, and the Les Arts website.
