Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana

The Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana (OCV) was founded in 2006 by Lorin Maazel, its first music director. In a short time, the resident orchestra of the Palau de les Arts has earned a prestigious reputation among both audiences and critics, achieving a high artistic level that places it among the best orchestras in Spain and one of the most important created in Europe in recent years. This recognition has also been forged thanks to the presence of Zubin Mehta in the early seasons, particularly with the memorable Wagnerian Ring cycle , as well as conductors of the caliber of Riccardo Chailly, Valery Gergiev, and Gianandrea Noseda. Following the fruitful period under the American conductor James Gaffigan, the prestigious British maestro Sir Mark Elder has been the orchestra's music director since September 2025.

Praised for the quality of its musicians and for being a versatile ensemble capable of interpreting both opera and symphonic-lyric music with admirable personality, the OCV continues its professional trajectory, driven by leading figures in orchestral conducting, including Daniele Gatti, Fabio Luisi, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and Philippe Jordan. It is also expanding its operatic repertoire under the guidance of renowned international conductors specializing in different styles, such as Marc Albrecht, Maurizio Benini, Lorenzo Viotti, Riccardo Minasi, and Marc Minkowski. Furthermore, it is strengthening its collaborations with leading Spanish conductors who have achieved significant international recognition, including Gustavo Gimeno, Pablo Heras-Casado, Juanjo Mena, and Josep Pons.
